4,500 Telangana Mee Seva centres declare bandh from November 1st

Alleging gross injustice at the hands of the State government which has removed some of the services from the ambit of MeeSeva centers, the Telangana Mee Seva Joint Action Committee (TMJAC) on Friday demanded the withdrawal of a proposal to bring down the number of MeeSeva centers.

They have also sought to increase the commissions on their services offered and also re-introduction of services that were taken away from MeeSeva centers. The MeeSeva franchisees across the State, they said, will stop delivering services from November 1.

Currently, around 4,500 Meeseva centers are functioning in the Telangana.
TMJAC members allege that MeeSeva centers that used to issue the birth certificate, death certificate, and other corrections in these documents earlier are not being allowed to do so since the last two months.
According to them, the revenue department officials also continue to harass the franchise operators.  At a press conference on Friday, the TMJAC members alleged that the State government did not hold any meetings with the MeeSeva franchise operators to review the issues of the centers.

Speaking to media persons, Baira Shankar, president of TMJAC, said, “The government has failed to increase the commission for services to the franchise operators. He said that the MeeSeva centers have been providing government services to citizens without any hassle and ensuring transparency.”

He also requested State government to withdraw the decision to move aadhaar enrolment services from MeeSeva centers.
The 4,500 MeeSeva centers across the state have declared a bandh from November 1. The centers, which were established to reduce corruption in departments requiring a public interface in 2011, are facing many issues from the departments concerned.
  __________
The centers are complaining against the indefinite extension of the period within which an application has to be approved or rejected, removal of services from MeeSeva centers and asking citizens to submit certificates in the department offices which is leading to corruption again.

Representations made to the government regarding these problems have gone in vain.

The bandh might affect services like providing caste, income, residence and other certificates.

Mr. Mohammad Abdul Moheed, general secretary, Telangana MeeSeva Joint Action Committee, said, “Though we act as a bridge between citizens and departments, we have to face the brunt of the people’s anger for the delay in services. We do not get proper answers from the officials for the delay, but we are answerable to the public.”

Mr P. V Rao, a MeeSeva user, said that even after certificates attached to applications are electronically scanned and sent, applicants have to go to the departments with the originals in person leading  to corruption.”
